Windows Power Adjust, standby, and sleep settings

Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 users

Tip: (Windows Power Adjust) Laptop users can also click the power icon in their notification area to get to the power settings.

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Click Hardware and Sound.
  3. Click Power OptionsĀ or Change power-saving settings.
  4. Click the Change Plan link under any of the plans to get the Edit Plan Settings window as shown below. If you do not want the computer to go into Standby mode or turn off the screen, select Never. You can also change the amount of time before the screen is turned off or the computer goes into Standby mode by selecting a different time limit.

The window that opens (shown above) allows you to change settings for turning off the display and whether or not to put the computer to sleep. You can also change additional advanced settings by clicking on the “Change advanced power settings” link. When you have completed the power settings changes, click the Save changes button before closing the window.
